Routine Care, Vaccinations, Sick Exams, Hospitalization
Thorough preventive health care can prevent disease and help identify problems earlier.  It is important that your pet receive thorough comprehensive examinations at least annually to identify any issues that may arise.  In terms of a pet’s life, 1 year is a long time! While vaccination is an important part of overall care for your pet, it is far more important to have annual exams for the purpose of evaluating overall health and to identify any problems that may be present.  We will work with you to develop the best vaccination protocol for your pet so that there is adequate protection without over-vaccination.  We provide consultation on routine care, geriatric health, behavioral concerns, nutrition, dental care and many other areas.  We can also provide hospitalization for some types of conditions depending on you and your pet’s needs.  While all pets are different, we are here to work with you and help find the best solution for you and your pet!

Surgical Services
Bexley Animal Hospital provides a wide range of routine elective and non-elective surgeries, including routine neuters and spays.  All pets will have a pre-surgical examination prior to anesthesia to ensure they are healthy enough for anesthesia and to answer any questions that you may have about the specific procedure.  We are equipped with up-to-date specialized equipment for the surgical and anesthesia needs of your pet.  We dedicate enough time to each procedure so that we can closely monitor each patient during and after surgery to ensure a safe anesthesia and recovery.  For some specialized procedures, we may discuss referral to a board certified surgeon for care.  We strive to offer the best care and to present all options to you regarding the care of your pet.

Diagnostic Services
At Bexley Animal Hospital, we can run in-house tests, such as tests for Heartworm Disease, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, Feline Leukemia Virus, Canine Parvovirus and Fecal Parasites. Our in-house laboratory also consists of a chemistry machine, which can be used for immediate results prior to anesthesia or in the case of illness.  We work with an outside laboratory for more comprehensive services, as well as for case consultations with specialists.

Digital Whole Body and Dental Radiography
This provides us with clear diagnostic images for both whole body and dental radiography.  Digital radiographs also mean less exposure time, more rapid evaluation and less radiation to your pet than the standard radiographs.  We are equipped with two units to generate x-rays.  One is a whole body machine and the other is a portable x-ray machine used for small areas of the body as well as for dental x-rays.  If your pet is ill, we also have the capability of sending the radiographs to board certified radiologists for consultation and having results that same day, while continuing care for your pet at Bexley Animal Hospital.

Dentistry
Dental health is an overall part of total body health.  As in people, poor dental health in pets can result in chronic pain, poor appetite, and overall effects on other organ health (liver, kidney and heart effects).  Many changes in personality are subtle to the owner but can be a result of chronic pain, especially associated with dental disease.  While focusing on prevention is important, many dental problems can be the result of genetic influences (small dogs and some cats).  It is important to be able to identify diseased areas during examination and especially during a dental procedure with thorough oral exams.  Dental x-rays are a very valuable asset in helping to identify disease areas.  More than half of oral health problems can be missed if dental x-ray capabilities are not available.  This makes it more likely that chronic pain will continue and repeat procedures will be needed as disease continues to progress.  We believe that a healthy mouth makes for a healthy and happy pet!

Pharmacy
At Bexley Animal Hospital, we have a convenient, comprehensive in-house pharmacy for immediate prescription availability.  We also carry some over-the-counter medications, shampoos, and flea products for your convenience.  We have an online pharmacy available to you where you can special order other medications that can be shipped directly to you.

Microchip Placement
Microchips are an important permanent method of identification for your pet.  Collars and tags can come off or be lost.  The microchip is placed under the skin in the shoulder area.  This can be done at any time, even during a routine appointment.  If you pet is lost, veterinary clinics, police stations, dog wardens and humane societies/shelters are equipped to read the microchips and will attempt to locate you based on the information registered.
